Seminar: Constructed Realities (2018)
Split Self-Image
Lukas Jäger

The video installation Split Self-Image deals with the subject of subjective perception. We are used to looking into a mirror (or a selfie camera) and looking at a frontal view of ourselves. However, the observation from one or even several other perspectives at the same time is unusual. The installation confronts the viewer with two lateral perspectives. These perspectives are arranged differently within each other and displayed live on a screen in the viewer's field of vision. The arrangement changes at intervals of 20 seconds. The viewer is to be tempted by movement in space to obtain a congruent reflection of himself. However, this is not possible due to the different perspectives and arrangements of the picture and forces him to deal with the unfamiliar point of view of his person and thus to discover new perspectives of himself.
