Spatial Video Archive
Elias Hodel

The installation “Spatial Video Archive” is a prototype for the interactive exploration of a video archive. The visitor can navigate through the archive by walking around with a HTC Vive controller. The space is divided in four areas aligned perpendicularly to the screen, where the videos are sorted according to criteria: views, likes, duration and date.

By getting closer or further away from the screen one can explore a single category in depth. In addition to the tracked position in the space the Vive controller serves as a simulated laser pointer to select, play and pause the videos on screen.

All videos are pulled from YouTube and are showing various scenes created in the Dreispitz area in Basel. They provide unexpected insights into the diversity of the area, which are otherwise buried under millions of videos on YouTube.
