Seminar: Boundless Visions (2011)
Visual Concentration Aid
Jeremy Däpp
Already today we are constantly confronted by an ever increasing flood of visual information making it more and more difficult to concentrate on what is really important. On the one hand due to the noisy and hectic work environment but on the other hand because of the growing amount of communication platforms demanding one’s attention at all times.
Could this problem be addressed and reduced thanks to the use of «Augmented Reality»? The aim of this investigation was to find out how such an approach could look like. If you automatically fade out all the unimportant objects in the surrounding, would this help one’s focus on the actual work, preventing unwanted distractions? In the concept visualisation of an office environment this is addressed by replacing the currently not relevant objects with grey shapes, thus making them still perceivable but less eye-catching.
