Seminar: My Data is Your Data, and Your Data is Mine (2013)
Open Network Project
Kathrin Deubelbeiss, Laura Beutler-Rodriguez

As a sequel to the first semesters project "Changing Shapes", which concerns itself with website tracking, this project goes further to track a networks activity.

In order to acquire data to work with a wifi hotspot was set up to observe a whole days network traffic. By the use of Processing and the Carnivore library this dataset was continually transformed into rounded shapes. Those shapes were laser cut out of wooden panels. In the end all shapes together result in an organic sculpture, which contains the whole data, but is not needed to be readable throughout – for us a very interesting method to create art like installations, but with a scientific background. It allows the observer to recognize development, but does not reflect every single data.
